Marnie LaNoue

Marianna (Marnie) LaNoue, PhD is an Associate Professor of Population Health and Affiliated Associate Professor of Family & Community Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. LaNoue holds leadership roles as the Director of the Greenfield Center for Primary Care Research, Associate Director of the Jefferson Longitudinal Study, and Associate Fellowship Director for a Population Health and Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship. Trained as a quantitative measurement scientist, her current research focuses on patient-centeredness, specifically the development and testing of methods for engaging patients and stakeholders in research and clinical care processes, and assessing the outcomes of engagement. She also investigates novel patient-centered care delivery systems and the measurement of patient perceptions of health care. Her current projects include measurement conceptualization of Patient Uncertainty During Acute Care Encounters (funded by the Society for Emergency Medicine) and conceptualization and measurement of Healthcare Provider Empathy and Communication (in collaboration with the Gold Foundation for Humanism in Medicine). In addition, Dr. LaNoue is currently the co-principal investigator on a PCORI-funded project investigating methods for eliciting the patient perspective on healthcare treatment outcomes. Her peer-reviewed publications include papers on the effectiveness of diabetes group visits and diabetes self-management education, the role of authentic relationships in intensive care management, and the measurement of healthcare provider teamwork.
