As CIO, Craig is responsible for leading SCL Health’s System Technology Service Center (STSC) as an innovative service provider, ensuring STSC strategies are aligned with the ministry needs and the right technology solutions are available to meet business demands.
Craig has a proven track record as a dynamic leader in healthcare’s digital transformation, its transition to value-based care, and treating patients as informed consumers. As former Senior Vice President & Chief Information and Analytics Officer at Carolinas HealthCare System (Atrium Health) for more than 20 years, Craig transformed the company into a national leader in the effective use of technology, utilizing data as a driver; analytics and business intelligence; artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic process automation. Most recently, Craig has served as owner and president of Richardville Consulting LLC, delivering resource, advisory and brokerage services for innovative start-up software and services companies.
Some of Craig’s notable recognitions include being named the 2017 CIO of the Year “Leadership Award” recipient by Charlotte CIO for his impact on industry leaders across all verticals. He was awarded the 2015 John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and HIMSS in recognition of his leadership in driving digital transformation in healthcare. In 2013, he was awarded CIO of the Year by the Charlotte Business Journal. Under his leadership, Carolinas HealthCare System earned the “Most Wired” designation for 14 consecutive years, received the “Most Wired Advanced” award for the last two years and achieved HIMSS EMR Adoption Model Stage 7 for both Acute and Ambulatory.
Craig is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society; chairman of Premier Member Technology Improvement Committee; and advisory board member of Queens University. He holds a masters of business administration degree and a bachelor’s degree in system analysis. He is the father to three grown sons who all work in healthcare and enjoys spending time hiking and exercising in the outdoors as well as traveling and attending live sporting events, concerts and theater.
