About David Langer

Dr. David Langer, MD, is a distinguished figure in the field of neurosurgery, currently serving as the Chair of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and Vice President of Neurosurgery for Northwell Health’s Western Region. With over 22 years of experience, he is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading neurosurgeon and an expert in cerebral revascularization and cerebral aneurysms.

He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of Eugene Flamm, MD, and later joined Dr. Flamm in New York City in 1998. He has contributed award-winning work to numerous peer-reviewed publications and has spoken extensively on vascular disorders such as aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the brain.

Under his leadership, Lenox Hill Hospital’s neurosurgery department has gained prominence, earning a spot among U.S. News & World Report’s top 50 hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery. Dr. Langer’s commitment to innovation is evident through his involvement in developing the 3D exoscope device, a groundbreaking technology that enhances the quality of neurosurgical procedures.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Langer is an active researcher, serving as an investigator for several research studies and a peer-reviewer for esteemed journals like Neurosurgery and Operative Neurosurgery. He is a member of prominent organizations such as the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS), American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).

Dr. Langer’s dedication to patient care extends beyond the operating room. He developed Playback Health, a smartphone app that enhances patient experience and provides personalized medical information. His contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including Northwell Health’s President’s Award in 2015 and The Sally Harrington Goldwater Memorial Visiting Professor Award from the Barrow Neurological Foundation in 2018.

Apart from his medical achievements, Dr. Langer has been featured in the Netflix Originals docuseries “Lenox Hill” and “Emergency NYC,” offering a glimpse into the life of a neurosurgeon in New York City. His innovative approaches, commitment to education, and patient-focused care continue to make a significant impact on the field of neurosurgery.
