Weekly Roundup featuring Amazon, Target, Aetna, Deloitte and more…

We hope everyone had a seamless transition into the work week after a long Labor Day weekend! Here at The Millennium Alliance, we are gearing up for our next assembly – CMO Day West Coast! We’ll be in sunny San Francisco talking all things marketing. But before we get carried away, let’s take a look at the top stories that happened this week in Healthcare, Marketing, Retail and Security/Enterprise!

Healthcare

Amazon-J.P. Morgan-Berkshire Hathaway

The joint venture brought on their new Chief Operations Officer, Jack Stoddard. Hailing from Comcast as former general manager for digital health, Stoddard’s official first day was this Tuesday. It’s the companies second major player on the field.

Deloitte-Vineti

Collaboration between Deloitte and cloud-based startup, Vineti, will be working together to create a patient engagement platform. Deloitte’s ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect platform along with GE and Mayo Clinic’s joint venture, Vineti, will connect patients with precision medicine options as well as increase engagement among providers, drug/medical device companies and vendors.

Aetna

The health insurer has announced its coverage of Abbott’s Proclaim neurostimulation pain therapy under a new national policy. Members will now be able to access an implant that will help pain by stopping signals that pass from the dorsal root ganglion to the brain. Its reported that this may help efforts towards the opioid epidemic.

Marketing

Ulta

The beauty supply company just launched a new campaign which features a video of all different ages, ethnicities, sizes and genders. Their tagline is, “The Possibilities Are Beautiful.” The campaign is replacing, “All Things Beauty, All in One Place” which launched back in 2015. This new message will redefine how beauty is portrayed.

Pizza Hut

As the first national campaign as an NFL sponsor, Pizza Hut is introducing, “Game Plan.” It is a new digital platform that’s part of the Hut Rewards program. It will let football fans receive deals, notifications about their NFL teams, and entry tickets to win prizes.

Retail

Target

The retailer is ready to take charge of holiday toy shopping a bit early this year. Target is doubling its offers of new toys. The store is also adding to their private label electronics assortment. Word on the street is, Target is preparing for the first holiday season without Toys R Us in the picture.

Amazon

The third Amazon Go store, the cashierless shopping experience, has opened up in Seattle. The building currently holds the storefront as well as Amazon offices. If you didn’t know, the second Amazon Go store opened just a week prior, and is less than 2 miles away from the newest Seattle store. Not to mention, the first store is less than a mile away from the second!

Security/Enterprise

Salesforce

The platform recently reported their Q4 2018 (which ended January 31st) numbers and made more than 1 billion predictions a day. Salesforce has had many advances in artificial intelligence and other technologies, but they have recently hired leadership on “the ethical and humane use of technology.” This will be the companies new focus.

Cloud Computing

About 93% of US businesses use cloud computing. Well, the current tariffs on Chinese IT imports are going to hurt US economic growth significantly. The building up and maintenance of these data centers have supported thousands of jobs and has also equaled out the field for smaller businesses by eliminating high entry costs. All in all, we may see higher prices for businesses/consumers as well as cost cutting for providers and interruptions of global supply chains.
