Let’s face it: unless you have 20/20 vision, you have relied on glasses in one way or another to see visually. Now, imagine those glasses having the ability to completely transform your life. Then, you will understand what smart glasses are.
“Fundamentally, the objective of smart glasses is to seamlessly blend human vision with the virtual world, producing a kind of ubiquitous computer.” just ask gemalto reports.
While learning about smart glasses, you may have a few questions along the way. I know I did! Such questions like, how do they work? Could I ever actually…use them? These are all valid questions, and ones that deserve attention. The truth behind smart glasses is that the technology that goes into making them work is high-tech and extremely futuristic. So, I thought. Those futuristic components have arrived, technology companies like Intel have something to do with it.
Smart Glasses 101
The technology behind smart glasses involves a camera that is built into the specs. This camera possesses capabilities that allow data to be transferred to and from smartphone devices.
“Smart glasses work through a combination of display, sensors and accelerometers, coupled with smart software and internet connectivity to make them realy useful. They tend to come with touchpads and/or voice controls to help users navigate the software that powers them, which can be embedded into the glasses themselves or incorporated into a handset – or both.” just ask gemalto reports.
We have seen companies like Snapchat and Google attempt to make the wearable computing device. According to Tech Crunch, Google received backlash in 2013 before the glasses were even released on the market. Could it be because the world was not ready for such a high tech tool to be molded into everyday lives? Were we simply just okay with simple spectacles that only make our vision better?
According to the article, consumers worried about privacy and quite simply, looking ridiculous. Now, Intel has tackled those problems with a brand new model of smart glasses.
Intel Tackles Smart Glasses
In the news today, Intel has announced that the technology company will be releasing a pair of smart glasses called Vaunt. The hype behind these glasses is that they look just like glasses, without the technology components attached. The smart attributes of the glasses have the ability to blend right into everyday looks, which means that this wearable is making a ton of progress in the tech world.
I’m not the only one excited. Publications from The Verge to Tech Crunch have reported that these glasses are predicted to make a huge stir in the industry. This is mainly because the glasses possess capabilities like a Bluetooth chip, a compass, a low-powered class one laser and an accelerometer.
The laser in the glasses will be able to tell users many things, such as notifications from your phone and other smartphone capabilities. Intel has not announced when, or if, the glasses will be released on the market for consumers.
“While it’s unclear if a product like this has wings in the market, Intel’s Vaunt currently represents the most promising version of ‘smart glasses’ we’ve yet seen. However, this project is in the very early stages of development, so there’s no telling when, or even if, this comes to fruition in a meaningful way.” Tech Crunch reports.
I will keep my eyes peeled on the advancements of this tool. In the meantime, get your visions ready.
