“Change the way you work” is the slogan for Workplace by Facebook, a social network that was created one year ago, targeting businesses and enterprise collaboration. This innovative platform has given businesses a chance to connect in order to “turn business ideas into action.”
“Workplace is a dedicated and secure space for companies to connect, communicate and collaborate. Organizations of all sizes can use familiar Facebook features such as News Feed, groups, messages and events to get things done.” Facebook states.
With the success of the social media platform Facebook, it is no surprise that a branch of this large enterprise would be so successful while targeting business professionals. Workplace provides tools that enable professionals to work together in order to achieve goals by embracing digital and mobile capabilities.
The way businesses carry out operations has changed as digital transformation has brought upon new roles for leaders. Now, enterprises must change strategies to include mobile, and digital components in order to keep up with the modern work culture that is around today. Workplace does just that.
According to Facebook’s FAQs regarding Workplace, the features that are available include different tools that resemble Facebook’s layout.
- Companies find that they can eliminate or drastically reduce their need for internal collaboration tools such as their intranet, telephony systems, video conferencing and distribution lists.
- Workplace does more than just simplify communications – it inspires all levels of the company to embrace digital and mobile, and adopt a culture of speed and transparency.
- In addition, Workplace is easy to use because it’s based on familiar Facebook features like News Feed, groups and messages. There’s no training required.
Facebook announced recently that a new set of features will be rolled out on Workplace. Such features include a new app for desktops called Workplace Chat, that will allow professionals to carry out group chats that allow groups of 50 people to be involved in conferences. This is a shift from previous Workplace features that only allowed one-to-one video conversations.
This new feature is changing the game of business operations. Enabling users to have access to multiple groups, expands communication and promotes collaboration in the work environment.
“Workplace has positioned itself as the collaboration platform for everyone in your organization — not just those who are so-called “knowledge workers” who are at desks most of the day. The idea is that everyone, from executive to barista to warehouse assistant, will find Workplace easy to use because, well, it looks and feels a lot like the hugely popular Facebook.” Techcruch reports.
Companies are loving Workplace, expanding from a large variety of industries. According to Facebook, 14,000 companies around the globe are using Workplace. From retail, to finance, telecommunications, real estate, shipping and much more, businesses are positioning themselves to collaborate from across the globe using this platform.
How Modern Tools Are Changing The Way We Work
It is clear that Facebook has made an aggressive attempt to dive into enterprise operations by making a product that supports different functions of the workforce. After retail giant, Walmart signed up to use Workplace, it became apparent that major enterprises are making a significant effort to modernize work environments.
Facebook is expanding their customer base, making an effort to integrate fast and transparent tools that help businesses move forward with collaboration and strong communication, which expands the way everyday tasks are carried out. Digital components are now a large portion in what enterprises are focusing on, in order to connect, manage activity and maximize performance.
Social media has changed business in more ways than one, and Facebook Workplace is a prime example of how enterprises can benefit to restructuring their strategies.
“We want to build Workplace like we built Facebook,” Codorniou said. “We [first] put everyone on the same network and connect them… when that happens, it goes from communication to automation.” Techcrunch eports
